ATB-429: Inflammatory Bowel Disease

ATB-429 is targetted at inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD is a disease category composed of Crohn’s Disease (CD) and Ulcerative Colitis (UC). These two forms of IBD are chronic, spontaneously relapsing disorders that result from the inappropriate and ongoing activation of the mucosal immune system in response to microbes in the lumen of the intestine.

IBD affects more than two million people in the USA, split almost equally between the two conditions. Significant unmet need exists for new, more effective therapies that are more easily tolerated by IBD patients.

ATB-429 has successfully completed animal studies and is entering the first stage of clinical trials. There is considerable pre-clinical evidence that ATB-429 is significantly more effective than its base drug (mesalamine which is the first-line treatment for IBD). Moreover, there is also considerable pre-clinical evidence that ATB-429 is significantly more effective in treating the visceral pain associated with IBD.
